Chirp is inspired by our 20 years experience in building software. Here is why we think it should work the way it does. If our views on these things make you happy, you'll probably like Chirp.
Software should be simply powerful
The best software makes complex things simple and efficient. We frankly think Apple establishes the best benchmark — beautiful and easy to use without making feature compromises. We do our best to mimic their best qualities — and bring the resulting benefits to both our Windows and Mac users.
I must be able to work when I'm off the ’net
Busy people with serious responsibilities still need to be able to work even when they can't access the web. Time spent on an airplane or in a train can be hugely productive. This is why most people still use Outlook for their primary email software (instead of switching to only web-based email.) In the same way, we think your project data should always be with you. For us, a website for collaboration isn't enough; we need real software.
All operating systems are created equal
The value of collaboration software quickly decreases when some team members aren't supported. Windows-only software leaves your graphics professionals and key Mac-equipped executives stranded. Writing software to run equally well on all platforms is lots of extra work, but we think it's important, and we are proud of the fact that we do it.
Email is burying me alive
Email is succeeding too well. It had us spending too much time each day reading & writing it. After a few months, bulging, unstructured mailboxes become impossible places to create and store information. The spammers are staying one step ahead of spam prevention controls. Time for a different approach. Put essential project information in one place, give it a little structure to help manage it, and keep it simple.
I can deal with a schedule slip...
but I can't tolerate last-minute surprises
Projects don't fail from badly-created Gantt charts or resource planning. They fail because people don't communicate what's happening. This is a key motivator in why we built Chirp. Keep your team aware of schedule risks, and everyone will adjust their work, or help you finish yours, to keep the schedule on track.
It's my right to try before I buy
The web changed people's expectations. Nobody wants to buy software without first knowing if it meets their needs. Chirp provides you, and all your team members with a free 30-day trial, so you'll have no doubts about whether you need Chirp before you buy it.
Teams span company boundaries; your tools should, too
A high percentage of your projects are likely to involve people who don't work directly for your company. Traditional collaboration tools work well within your company's internal network, but you must resort to plain old email to involve your external team members. The Internet provides a great network that reaches your partners; Chirp leverages the Internet to let you work with team members wherever they work.
Getting started should be effortless
Whether your IT organization is simply so swamped they can't handle anything new, or you are a small business that doesn't even have an IT staff, using Internet-based services reduces the pressure to install, maintain, and support useful productivity applications. Just use Chirp, and let us worry about running the network services needed to connect you with your teammates.
Leverage the best-available technology to build products.
The “not-invented-here” syndrome is bad for software development. Software should use the best advanced technology tools, components, and standards that are available at any given time. Chirp does. Read how.
